Fabic Video - Parenting

Video gold on Parenting

Parenting can be challenging for many at the best of times especially if your kids are not behaving as you would like them to. Often we have not been taught or educated on how to be parents, and whilst this period of our life can be very rewarding it can also be one of the most challenging and not to mention exhausting periods of our life.

But what if parenting is in fact very very simple as it does not need to be characterised with the behavioural challenges many parents face today? Whilst there is no excuse for any irresponsible behaviour in truth, one of the reasons our children do misbehave is because of misperceptions and hence lack of true open hearted understanding with what may be going on before them.

After all, no one likes being judged, or feeling that someone is trying to control their behaviour. So how do we do it then? What is the best way to offer understanding when you yourself may be feeling judged or equally misunderstood from your children?

The answer is simple, and it comes back to understanding yourself and your behaviour first. After all, we cannot understand another's behaviour when we are not willing to understand our own.

Parenting Tips - Consistency and the Impact on Behaviour

Tanya Curtis explains that the key to successful parenting lies in our ability to be consistent with our behaviours no matter where we are on the behaviour scale. For example, a parents behaviour with a child when the parent is at code blue could be quite playful, yet when this parent is at code orange, they may refuse to play with the child and instead tell them off for things they would have otherwise not got into trouble with if the parent is at code blue. This inconsistency causes anxiety in children.
