Audio gold on Parenting

Parenting can be challenging for many at the best of times especially if your kids are not behaving as you would like them to. Often we have not been taught or educated on how to be parents, and whilst this period of our life can be very rewarding it can also be one of the most challenging and not to mention exhausting periods of our life.

But what if parenting is in fact very very simple as it does not need to be characterised with the behavioural challenges many parents face today? Whilst there is no excuse for any irresponsible behaviour in truth, one of the reasons our children do misbehave is because of misperceptions and hence lack of true open hearted understanding with what may be going on before them.

After all, no one likes being judged, or feeling that someone is trying to control their behaviour. So how do we do it then? What is the best way to offer understanding when you yourself may be feeling judged or equally misunderstood from your children?

The answer is simple, and it comes back to understanding yourself and your behaviour first. After all, we cannot understand another's behaviour when we are not willing to understand our own.

The Word No

Ever experienced or at least been witness to someone having to say no to someone else only to receive a reaction of dislike back? How do we say no without getting such a level of reaction and how do we show love and understanding through this process? Fabic Behaviour Specialist Tanya Curtis explores this in greater depth and raises the possibility that we are saying more than just 'No' when this word is used.

How often do we say we will one thing and then do something completely different such as saying we will be home at 4 and then not arrive home till after 5? The impact that this has on our relationships with others especially our children is huge and can often lead them to developing that exact same behaviour later in life.
